Monroy, Oscars, Meffert Take Home Weekly Volleyball Honors

Hartford's Jennifer Monroy (Rahway, N.J./Union Catholic) has been tabbed America East Player of the Week for volleyball, while Freshman Ashley Oscars (Bakersfield, Calif./Liberty) of UMBC garners the first America East Rookie of the Week accolades of her career and Binghamton's Ashley Meffert (Louisville, Ky./Fern Creek) earns America East Setter of the Week honors. The accolades were announced on Monday (September 11).

Monroy was named to the All-Tournament team at the Columbia Tournament after averaging 4.00 kills per game over three matches this past weekend. She finished the three matches with 48 total kills, leading the team, and was second on the squad with a .225 hitting percentage. Over the three matches she also added eight service aces, and was second on the team defensively with 35 digs averaging just under three digs-per-game. She also tallied six block assists. She opened the tournament with just four kills against Hofsta but came back to hit .250 with 20 kills against Columbia and then set a new season best mark with 24 kills against NJIT. She recorded double doubles against both Columbia and NJIT with 13 digs against Columbia and 18 against NJIT.

Oscars emerged as an outside hitter last week, averaging 3.73 kpg and 4.10 ppg in five matches last week. Oscars entered in the second game of a three-game match with Delaware, recording seven kills, eight digs and two service aces over the final two sets. Used as a reserve against Washington, Oscars once again recorded seven kills over the final two sets of the match. Oscars joined the starting line up the final three matches of the week, recording double-digit kills in each match. She began with 15 kills against Gonzaga, recording three errors on 38 attacks for a .316 hitting percentage. She added 14 kills against Portland State and 13 against North Dakota State. Oscars added 1.47 digs per game and 0.33 blocks per game as well on the week.

Meffert was named to the Harvard Invitational All-Tournament Team after averaging 12.25 assists in 12 games. Against Harvard, she established new career-highs in both kills (11) and hitting percentage (.400). She also added a match-high 47 assists and 24 digs to register her first career triple-double. In the Bearcats’ 3-1 victory over Rutgers, she registered her fourth double-double of the season with a match-high 47 assists and 16 digs. She also added four total blocks in that contest.
