UMBC’s Brendan Mundorf (Baltimore, Md./Mt St. Joseph) is the America East Player of the week, while Albany’s Corey Small (St. Catherines, Ontario/Holy Cross) is the America East Rookie of the Week. Both accolades were announced Monday (May 1).
Mundorf tied a career high with seven goals as UMBC defeated Stony Brook, 20-9 to win the America East regular season title and clinch the No. 1 Seed for the America East Championship. Mundorf scored four consecutive goals, three of which were unassisted, in a span of 1:50 in the third quarter as part of a 10-1 UMBC run which iced the game. His second goal of the game was the 100th of his career, as he became the 10th player in school history to hit the century mark in goals. UMBC will host the America East Championship May 5th and 7th.
Small matched a career-high with three goals for the second-straight game. It was the fourth multiple-goal game of the season for Small. He has scored in 10-of-13 games played and ranks fifth on team in scoring with 22 points (17 goals, 5 assists). With the win over Binghamton, Albany tied a season-high with 20 goals in a game. Albany is the No. 3 seed in this weekend’s championship.
