Five Win Weekly Track and Field Honors

UMBC’s Adam Grossman (Baltimore, Md./Pikesville) and Vermont’s Jan Carlson (Vernon, Vt.,/Brattlesboro) are the America East Men’s and Women’s Track Performers of the Week, respectively. Binghamton’s Rory Quiller (West Point, N.Y./James O’Neil), UMBC’s Mike Zyvoloski (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) and Vermont’s Cassandra Madsen (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) are the Field Performers of the Week. The accolades were announced Tuesday (April 18).

Grossman won the 100-meter dash and placed third in the 200-meter dash at the University of Virginia Milton G. Abramson/Lou Onesty Invitational last weekend. Grossman in a field of 52 competitors sprinted to the win in a time of 10.63 seconds. Last year’s America East Conference Outdoor Performer of the Meet at the America East Championship went on to place third in the 200-meter dash, finishing in a time of 21.62 seconds. The 200-meter dash consisted of 66 competitors and 10 heats as Grossman was first in the second heat by 0.23 seconds.

Carlson won both the 100-meter and 200-meter at the UNH Invitational. Carlson won the 100-meter with a time of 12.58 and posted a winning time of 25.67 in the 200-meter. She was also a member of Vermont’s winning 4x100 relay team (48.96).

Quiller won the men's pole vault at the Virginia/Lou Onesty Invitational this past weekend. It marks the third consecutive meet he has won the event. He captured the pole vault for the third time this season with a NCAA Regional-qualifying height of 16’8.75”.

Zyvoloski fell 7.92 inches short of his own school record set earlier this year in placing second overall and first among collegiate competitors in the hammer throw at the University of Virginia Milton G. Abramson/Lou Onesty Invitational last weekend. Zyvoloski recorded a toss of 183’00.8” in the hammer throw, finishing second to unattached participant John Hart while defeating the entire collegiate competition comprised of 36 competitors. Zyvoloski went on to take third out of 50 participants in the discus throw with a mark of 159’7.8”.

Madsen, a junior at Vermont won the pole vault at the UNH Invitational with a mark of 10’6”.
