Boston U.’s Jenny Hauser (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes) is the America East Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week, while teammate Danica Strutt (Phoenix, Md./St. Paul’s) is the Defender of the Week. New Hampshire’s Sarah Von Bargen (East Setauket, N.Y./ Ward Melville) earns her third Rookie of the Week Honor. The accolades were announced Monday (April 17).
Hauser turned a pair of impressive offensive performances, scoring a combined 12 goals on just 13 shots to reach the 50-goal mark for the second straight year. The sophomore scored on all six of her shots in a 20-2 rout at Binghamton while also adding an assist, three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. On Saturday, Hauser helped the Terriers stretch their home win streak to 20 games with an eight-point outing in a 19-8 victory over Oregon. The attacker had three goals in each half against the Ducks and added two assists and a season-high three draw controls.
Strutt helped Boston U. hold its two opponents to a combined 10 goals on the week, posting totals of eight ground balls and seven caused turnovers. The senior caused four turnovers and snagged four ground balls in a 19-8 home victory over Oregon on Saturday after recording three caused turnovers and four ground balls in a 20-2 road triumph over Wednesday. Strutt has forced a team-best 17 turnovers this season.
Von Bargen recorded five points -- all on goals -- as well as four ground balls and two draw controls to help propel UNH to victories against Harvard and Binghamton. She finished with three goals, two ground balls and one draw control versus Binghamton. Von Bargen scored 25 seconds into the game versus the Bearcats to set the tone for the game, then struck again twice more in the first half to extend the Wildcats' lead to 4-0 (at 3:42) and 9-0 (at 8:56). With her three-goal effort, she broke UNH's record for goals by a rookie and now has 30 this season. Von Bargen scored once in each half against Harvard.
