Six Earn Weekly Track and Field Honors

BOSTON— Shaun Krawitz (Aukland, New Zealand/Auckland University) and Albany’s Jessica Ortman (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) are this week’s America East Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track America East Performers of the Week, respectively. Albany’s Freddie Wills (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) and Binghamton’s Paddy Hennessy (Selkirk, N.Y./Bethleham) share the Men’s Field Performer of the Week honor, while Boston U.’s Tahari James (Brandford, Conn.) and New Hampshire’s Chia-Ling Wu (Merrimack, N.H./Merrimack) share the Women’s Field Performer of the Week honor. All accolades were announced Tuesday (April 11).

Krawitz knocked .46 from his own school record in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the Duke Invitational, finishing 10th overall in an IC4A qualifying time of 9:15.13.

Ortman broke her own Albany 800-meter standard at the Duke Invitational last weekend. She crossed the line in 2:10.24, 57-hundredths of a second better than her previous school record. The freshman was the top Albany finisher in the event and ninth overall, missing the NCAA Regional standard by less than half a second. Overall, Ortman has improved on the 800-meter record by 2.65 seconds this season and has qualified for the USA Track & Field Junior Nationals in both the 800-meter and 1500-meter.

Wills competed in three jumping events at the Duke Invitational last weekend, finishing in the top six in both the triple jump (fifth overall) and the high jump (sixth). He posted a triple jump mark of 47’5.25", his best as a collegian and a 4.5-inch improvement on his previous best. The freshman recorded a 6-6 in the high jump, missing his collegiate best by only two inches. He also turned in a 21’7.25" long jump performance at Duke.

Hennessy won the hammer throw at the West Point Invitational with a distance of 181’7" surpassing his old school record of 175’00", which he set earlier in the season. He reached the IC4A qualifying standard for the second time this season.

James swept the long jump and triple jump at the Duke Asics Invitational… Placed first in the long jump with a distance of 6.14-meters leading the runner-up by more than 11 inches… Finished first in the triple jump with a distance of 13.03-meters.

At this weekend’s Wildcat Invitational, Wu set the pace in the throws by winning the hammer throw with a mark of 48.40-meters.
