University of Maryland Baltimore County’s Andy Gallagher (Rockville, Md./DeMatha) and University of Vermont’s Jamie Kirk (Orangeville, Ontario/Salisbury School) share this week’s America East Player of the Week Honors, while UMBC’s Jeremy Blevins (Cockeysville, Md./Calvert Hall) is the Rookie of the Week. The accolades were announced Monday (March 27).
Gallagher tied career highs in goals (five) and points (six) as UMBC upset 12th ranked Denver 12-8. Gallagher scored a pair of man-up goals in the first half, then scored three of UMBC’s fourth quarter goals, including the eventual game-winner as the Retrievers drew away from the Pioneers.
Kirk, a sophomore for the Catamounts, scored a career high 10 points (four goals, six assists) in the 14-10 come from behind win against Quinnipiac. He added one goal and two assists in the win over Wagner. He also had seven ground balls on the week.
Blevins made a season high 13 saves to slow down a potent Denver squad in UMBC’s 12-8 victory over the 12th-ranked Pioneers. The 13 saves gave Blevins a 61.9 save percentage in the game. Blevins was the first freshman to start for UMBC in the cage since 1993.
