University of New Hampshire’s Katie Leland (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) has been named the America East Player of the Week, while her teammate Ashley Milley (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) picks up America East Defender of the Week honors. UMBC’s Kara Dorr (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) is the America East Rookie of the week. The accolades were announced Monday (March 20).
Leland sparked New Hampshire to a 14-13 overtime victory at 18th-ranked Towson with a game-high six goals, including the tally that tied the score 13-13 with 75 seconds remaining in regulation. Leland also recorded two assists at Vanderbilt to finish the week with eight points, three ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers.
Milley matched her career high of 13 saves to help UNH record a 14-13 overtime victory on the road against 18th-ranked Towson University. Two of those stops were in the six-minute overtime session. Milley also stopped seven of 15 shots on goal at Vanderbilt.
Dorr scored two goals in the Retrievers’ 14-12 loss to No. 11 William and Mary on March 18, including UMBC’s final goal, which tied the game at 12-12 with 5:50 to play. She also scored one during the 6-0 run in the first half that saw UMBC take an 8-4 halftime lead. Dorr picked up two ground balls and won two draw controls, and she did not turn the ball over once. On the season, Dorr is fifth on the team with nine goals and sixth with 10 points. She also leads the team with 19 draw controls and is third with 20 ground balls.
