University of Vermont’s Becky Kenison (Woodstock, Vt./Woodstock) has been named America East Player of the Week. Sophomore goalkeeper Jenna Golden (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern), from Boston University, has been named America East Defender of the Week, while New Hampshire’s Sarah Von Bargen (East Seatuuket, N.Y./Ward Melville) and Stony Brook’s Kaitlin Leggio (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) share Rookie of the Week accolades. The awards were announced Monday (March 13).
Kenison scored a career-high five goals in wins over Niagara and Quinnipiac to lead Vermont to a 2-0 week during the opening week of the season. She added four goals and an assist in Vermont’s next two games against Siena and Marist. Kenison entered the year with 35 career points and 21 career goals and currently leads the team in scoring with 15 points on 14 goals and one assist.
Golden made 14 saves, including one on a free-position shot with eight seconds left in regulation, to lead the Terriers to a thrilling 7-6 victory over third-ranked North Carolina. In her first career start, the sophomore made eight saves to help Boston U. pick up a 16-6 victory over Massachusetts in the season opener.
Von Bargen leads New Hampshire in both goals (13) and points (14) through four games this season, and her five caused turnovers is tied for second on the team. She has scored at least one goal and recorded multiple points, including a six-goal effort versus Marist, in all four games. She also netted three goals versus third-ranked Dartmouth and at Yale.
Leggio kicked off her collegiate career by scoring in each of her first four games, including a pair of four-goal outings in a 3-1 opening two weeks for Stony Brook. In the season-opener versus Colgate she netted a goal and picked up five ground balls before scoring four goals in back-to-back wins over Mount St. Mary’s and Fairfield. For the season, she ranks second on the team with 10 goals and third with 10 points.
