Tayla, Manoogian, Acevado, Lewandowski, Dege Earn Weekly Swimming and Diving Accolades

Binghamton’s Kaan Tayla (Ankara, Turkey/Buyuk) and Stony Brook’s Shirlee Manoogian (Holbrook, N.Y./Holbrook) have been named America East Men’s and Women’s Swimming Performers of the Week. Stony Brook’s Julian Acevado (Long Island City, N.Y./Newcomers) is this week’s Men’s America East Diving performer of the week, while for the women, Stony Brook’s Hailey Lewandowski (Pomona, N.Y./Ramapo) and New Hampshire’s Shana Dege (Lockport, N.Y.) share the honor. Tayla won a pair of individual events and was the decisive piece of the 400-medley relay that started out the dual meet against conference rival Stony Brook with a victory for the Bearcats. Tayla touched first in the 50-free (21.08) for the win and then in the 100-free he was triumphant in 46.20, breaking the Stony Brook pool record of 46.28. In the come-from-behind victory in the 400-medley relay Tayla took the water 1.48 seconds behind Stony Brook’s Jason Maschi. Tayla swam his leg 4.79 seconds faster than his Stony Brook competitor to win the relay in 3:26.69 which helped spark the team that eventually would win the meet 122-121. For the season the Bearcats went undefeated against conference schools and finished the dual season with a 9-2 record.

Manoogian now owns 14 school records to date. She was a dual-winner on the afternoon against Binghamton, breaking two school records in the process. Manoogian touched first in the 100-free (51.90) and the 200-IM (2:06.75).

Acevado cruised to victories over Binghamton this weekend on the diving boards, winning the one and three meter events. On the one-meter, he received a score of 282, 40 points better than the second-place finisher. In the three-meter event, Acevado once again topped the competition by over 40 points after tallying a score of 279.65.

Lewandowski picked up wins in both diving events this weekend against Binghamton. With a score of 247.95 in the one-meter, she topped her opponents by almost 50 points, while on the three-meter, she scored a 241.27, over 55 points ahead of the second-place finisher.

Dege won both the one-meter and three-meter in the dual meet at Maine. Dege claimed the one meter with a score of 239.10. She convincingly won the three meter with a score of 252.53.
