America East to Crown Champions in Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field

The 18th annual America East Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championship will be held at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center on the Boston University campus on Friday, February 17 and Saturday, February 18.(Men's Decending Order List)(Women's Decending Order List)

Northeastern University captured both the Men’s and Women’s America East Indoor Track and Field titles in 2005. The Northeastern men edged the University at Albany 147-146, while the Northeastern women beat out Boston University women 173.50-134. The Albany men have won three titles since joining America East in 2002, while the Boston U. women have won 10 of the previous 16 titles.

Albany’s 146 points was a record finish for points by a second-place team. The tally was also higher than the nine previous America East Champions. The Great Danes were ahead by one point going into the final event (4x400 relay), but the Huskies were able to pick up two points for the meet victory.

Rounding out the rest of the field for the 2005 championship for the men was third-place University of New Hampshire (102) followed by, University of Maryland Baltimore County (101.5), Binghamton University (93.5), Boston University (77), University of Maine (64), Stony Brook University (26), University of Hartford (12), University of Vermont (7). On the women’s side, in third place was Albany (107), followed by New Hampshire (102), Binghamton (80.5), UMBC (54), Maine (48), Vermont (46), Stony Brook (32) and Hartford (3).

Top track performances for the men will be anticipated from UMBC’s Adam Grossman in the 200-meter dash and the 55-meter dash, Albany’s Gered Burns in the 800-meter dash, Boston U.'s David Proctor in the 1,000-meter, Maine's Kirby Davis in the 5,000-meter and Stony Brook’s Brian Farrell in the 3,000-meter. For field events, Albany’s Freddie Wills is a top contender in the long jump and high jump, while teammate Kamar Elliot is favored in the triple jump. The UMBC pair comprised of Nathan Dixon and Rob Ludwig are the top two seeds in the pole vault. New Hampshire’s Josh Edwards is the top seed for the shot put while UMBC’s Mike Zyvoloski holds the top spot entering the weight throw.

For the women, Boston U.’s Alexis Beaudet is expected to be a top finisher in both the 55-meter and 200-meter dashes. Teammate Rebbeca Marshburn holds the top seed for the 400-meter dash. The Terriers Marissa Ryan enters the meet with high seedings in the mile and 3000-meter run. Albany’s Jessica Ortman and Jenna Ortman are the number one and two seeds for the 800-meter run, respectively. Jessica Ortman also holds the number one spot for the 1000-meter run. For field events, Boston U.’s Tahari James is seeded first in both the triple jump and long jump, while fellow Terrier Nikki Hill is ranked first in the high jump. Binghamton’s Katie Wilmer is the high seed in the pole vault. UMBC’s Ashley Fauntleroy and New Hampshire’s Erin Moore will battle in both the shot put and weight throw.

The championship begins Friday at 10 a.m. with the women’s pentathlon followed by the men’s heptathlon. Other finals on Friday are the men’s and women’s 5,000-meter run, weight throw, pole vault, long jump and the distance medley relay.

Saturday’s events begin at 10 a.m. with the conclusion of the men’s heptathlon. Other Saturday finals are: shot put, high jump, triple jump, 1-mile run, 55-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 500-meter dash, 55-meter hurdles, 800-meter run, 1000-meter run, 200-meter dash, 3000-meter run, 4x800-meter relay, and the 4x400-meter relay.

University at Albany, Binghamton University, Boston University, University of Hartford, University of Maine, UMBC, University of New Hampshire, Northeastern University, Stony Brook University and University of Vermont will all compete in the 2005 America East Indoor Track and Field Championship.
