BOSTON - The Boston University field hockey team learned its draw in the NCAA tournament on Tuesday evening, as the 20th-ranked Terriers (14-6) will take on No. 7 UConn (19-3) on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. in Princeton, N.J. Boston U. will have a great chance to avenge one of its regular-season setbacks, as the Huskies handed the Terriers their lone home loss on Oct. 18. In the other match-up in the regional, No. 3 Old Dominion (19-3) will face Princeton (11-6).
The Terriers will be making their second consecutive appearance in the NCAA tournament and ninth overall. The back-to-back NCAA berths marks the second time in program history that the feat has been achieved, as Boston U. made the tournament field in 1999 and 2000.
In last season's NCAA First Round match-up with Michigan, Boston U. held a 3-1 lead in the second half before falling victim to a late rally in an eventual 4-3 overtime loss.
Boston U. is 3-9 all-time in the NCAA tournament, not including wins in play-in games in both 2000 and 2005. The Terriers' first appearance in the NCAA bracket ended up being its most successful, as the 1985 squad reached the national semifinals before dropping a 2-1 contest to Connecticut.
On Saturday, Old Dominion and Princeton will take the field first for an 11 a.m. contest before Boston U. and UConn will start at 2 p.m. The two winners will meet on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the second round for the right to advance to the NCAA Field Hockey Championship, to be held Nov. 17-19 at Wake Forest.
