Boston University Crowned Field Hockey Champs

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. ? For the second-consecutive season and the sixth time in conference history, Boston University has been crowned America East Field Hockey Champions. The top-seeded Terriers defeated No. 3 Maine, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at Jack Barry Field to earn the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Boston University improves to 14-6 on the season and now awaits Tuesday’s Field Hockey Selection Announcement live on CSTV at 7 p.m. The Black Bears’ season comes to an end with a final 8-11 mark as they earn conference runner-up honors for the fourth time in the last five seasons.

Hayley Hamada (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual) and Hadley Adams (Barre, Mass./Quabbin Regional) both scored a goal and assisted on another to lead the Terriers to victory. For her efforts, Hamada was one of four Terriers named to the All-Tournament Team. She was joined on the 11-member all-tournament squad by Erin Calamari (Chester, Conn./Valley Regional), Suus Dekker (Rotterdam, Holland/Insula College/Thuredrecht) and Pam Spuehler (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury). Spuehler highlighted the team as she was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.

The All-Tournament Team also featured Maine’s Katie Flaherty (Winslow, Maine/Winslow), Rebecca Giroux (Augusta, Maine/Cony) and Amy Zdrojesky (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen), Albany’s Jess Lindsey (Norristown, Pa./Methacton) and Teska Koch (Hilversum, Netherlands/’t Sint Vituscollege, Bussum) and Vermont’s Lauren Burke (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) and Kristen Heavens (Hawinton, Conn./Lewis Mills).
