BOSTON, MASS. – The 2006 America East Men’s Soccer Championship begins on Sunday, October 29 with two first-round games. In those first round games, No. 4 Albany hosts No. 5 Boston University at 1 p.m., while No. 3 New Hampshire plays host to No. 6 Stony Brook at 3 p.m. in a rematch of the regular season finale.

No. 1 Binghamton and No. 2 Vermont will host semifinal games on Wednesday, November 1. The Bearcats will play the winner of Albany-Boston University, while Vermont will face the winner of New Hampshire-Stony Brook.

The championship game will be held either Saturday, November 4 or Sunday, November 5 at the higher remaining seed. The winner of the America East Championship will earn the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Binghamton captured its first-ever regular-season title and earned a first-round bye after tying Vermont on the final day of the conference regular season. The Bearcats return to the postseason for the fourth-straight time and have advanced to the conference championship in each of the past three seasons, including winning a title in 2003.

Vermont, the 2006 preseason favorite, led the league for most of the regular season and finished second earning a first-round bye. The Catamounts have the second-highest offensive production scoring 26 goals this season.

In the championship’s first game, No. 4 Albany will take on No. 5 Boston University. The Great Danes won the only meeting between the two this season 1-0 in overtime back on October 14. Boston University won its last two regular-season games to earn a spot in the championship.

The second opening-round game will feature No. 3 New Hampshire versus No. 6 Stony Brook. The Wildcats finished the regular season in third place with a league-best 11 overall wins. The Seawolves, the 2005 America East champion, qualified for the postseason with a win and a tie in its final two conference games.
