WEST HARTFORD, CONN. ? No. 5 New Hampshire battled No. 4 Binghamton to a scoreless tie before the Wildcats advanced to the semifinals of the 2006 America East Women’s Soccer Championship via penalty kicks, 4-2, on Friday afternoon at Al Marzook Field in West Hartford, Conn. UNH moves on to face top-seeded Hartford on Sunday at 4 p.m.
Binghamton finishes 7-8-3 overall in 2006. The Wildcats are now 6-10-1 overall.
New Hampshire’s Jenna Duncan (Ivyland, Penn./Council Rock North) netted the fourth and deciding goal into the upper-right corner of the net during the penalty-kick session. Caitlyn Serafine (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy), Lia Barros (Sammamish, Wash./Skyline), Michelle Sheehan (Belmont, Mass./Belmont), also netted goals for the Wildcats, while Amanda Casares (Rahway, N.J./Rahway) and Katie Kerrigan (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush) tallied goals for the Bearcats.
Binghamton’s Kristie Bowers (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) registered six saves, while UNH’s Lynn Gugliuzza (Kenmore, N.Y./Kenmore West) had two saves as they are both credited with a shutout.
