Binghamton's Katie Robertson (Ancaster, Ontario/Ancaster) has been named America East Player of the Week for volleyball, while Albany's Blair Buchanan (Muncie, Ind./Delta) has garnered Setter of the Week honors for the second time this season and Ashley Oscars (Bakersfield, Calif./Liberty) of UMBC has earned America East Rookie of the Week accolades for the fourth-consecutive week. The awards were announced Monday (October 2).
Roberson led Binghamton squad to conference and home-opening 3-0 victory Friday night over preseason favorite Albany. She tallied 14 kills and hit at a match-high clip of .393, committing only three errors in 28 swings. Roberston's contribution also extended to the defensive end, where she shared match-high honors with 13 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. She has now posted double-digit dig numbers in 10 matches.
Oscars averaged 5.38 kills per game in two matches last week, including setting a new career high for the second consecutive week as the rookie outside hitter tallied 25 kills against Albany. Oscars hit .241 on the week with 43 kills and 17 errors on 108 total attacks. She opened the week with 18 kills at Hartford in a three-set win for UMBC. Oscars went on to conclude the week with her 25 kill performance in a five set loss to the Great Danes. Against Albany she added a service to tie her career high of 26 points in the match. Oscars has double figure kills in each of her last 10 matches, including 20-plus kills in two of her last three matches. Oscars is averaging 4.26 kpg on the season and 4.68 points per game.
Buchanan recorded her first career triple-double as the Great Danes rallied for a 3-2 America East Conference win over UMBC on Sunday, Oct. 1. Buchanan, who scored the winning point in the fifth and deciding game, posted 58 assists, 13 digs and a career-high 14 kills in the match, while also hitting .500 and notching four total blocks. Buchanan had also recorded double-doubles of the assist-dig variety in the previous two matches for UAlbany, recording 33 assists and 10 digs in a loss to Binghamton on Sept. 29 and 50 assists and 12 digs in a win over crosstown-rival Siena on Sept. 26. For the week, Buchanan totaled 141 assists, 35 digs, 18 kills and six total blocks.
