New Hampshire's Emmy Blouin (St. Albert, Alberta/Paul Keane) and Kirsten Bates (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Carroll) have been tabbed America East Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively in volleyball, while Stony Brooks's Kaitlyn Deutsch (St. Louis, Mo./Southern Miss) was named Setter of the Week. The awards were announced on Monday (October 16).
Blouin notched a team-high 43 kills on the week and averaged 4.78 kills per game in two wins last week. The junior also added a .343 hitting percentage to go along with 26 digs and four blocks on the week. She finished the UMBC match with 16 kills on Friday and posted a career-high 27 kills, a .404 hitting percentage and 13 digs vs. Albany in the 3-2 win Sunday. She leads the team with 296 kills and 4.00 kills per game and her .225 hitting percentage ranks second on the team. Blouin ranks fifth in the conference among hitters in kills per game at 4.15.
Bates amassed 33 kills this week, 3.67 kills per game, 14 digs and a .279 hitting percentage. She recorded a career-high 17 kills at UMBC on Friday and then followed that up with a 16-kill effort on Sunday. She also added nine digs and hit at a .333 clip in the victory over the Great Danes. She has registered 55% of her kills on the season in the last three matches with 47 kills during that time.
Deutsch tallied 91 assists in two matches as she helped the Seawolves to a 2-0 record during the week. She registered a match-high 50 assists and added five kills as Stony Brook hand Binghamton its first conference loss of the year. She followed that up with 41 assists in a sweep of Hartford. The junior transfer has 955 assists on the year, an average of 11.51 per contest.
