Vermont's Maegan Luce (Hartford, Vt./Hartford) earns America East Player of the Week honors in field hockey, while her teammate Kristen Heavens (Harwinton, Conn./Lewis Mills) has garnered America East Rookie of the Week accolades for the second time this season. The awards were announced on Monday (October 16).
Luce helped the Catamounts record a pair of victories. The sophomore netted her first career hat trick in a 6-4 win on the road at Massachusetts and also handed out a pair of assists in the contest, giving her eight points in the game. She also provided the game-winning goal in a 2-1 double-overtime victory over America East rival Boston University on Saturday. She put back a rebound in the 94th minute to give Vermont only its third victory over the Terriers in 27 meetings. She has scored at least one point in 12 of Vermont’s 14 games this season and is tied for the team lead in goals (13) and is second in points with 32 on the year.
Heavens recorded a pair of victories in the cage for the Catamounts. She made eight saves in a win over Massachusetts on Wednesday and followed that up with an eight save outing in a double-overtime win over Boston University. She is now 4-2 on the year with a goals against average of 2.05 and one shutout.
