Holmes,Karrer, Manoogian, Graham Earn Weekly Swimming and Diving Honors

BOSTON— Binghamton’s David Holmes (Doncaster, England/Derby Univ.), UMBC’s Ryan Karrer (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) and Stony Brook’s Shirlee Manoogian (Holbrook, N.Y./Holbrook) have been named America East Men’s and Women’s Swimming Performers of the Week. Binghamton’s Ryan Graham (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) is this week’s Men’s America East Diving Performer of the Week. The awards were announced Tuesday (January 31). (Week Nine Recap)

Holmes won two individual events and was part of a pair of relays that were victorious against Colgate. Holmes won the 200-fly in 1:58.39, more than seven seconds faster than his next competitor (2:05.54). In the 200-IM, he touched in 1:55.86 for the victory. In the 400-free relay, Holmes led the team that was triumphant in 3:09.66, barely three tenths of a second behind the Binghamton pool record (3:09.35) set in 2002 by a Cornell relay team. Holmes also swam the third leg of the 400-medley relay that won in 3:33.59.

Karrer was UMBC’s only multiple winner at Marist, as he swept the distance freestyle events with times of 4:43.50 in the 500-free and 9:36.31 in the 1,000-free. It is the eighth time Karrer has won both distance events in a dual meet this season.

Manoogian shattered a 23-year old school record in the 1650-freestyle by 30-seconds, touching iin 17:29.19. She also won the 100-free in a time of 52.32 in a win over Fairfield this weekend. Manoogian now owns 14 school records to date.

Graham swept the one- and three-meter board diving events against Colgate. He won the one-meter dive with a score of 271.50, more than 35 points better than his closest foe. In the three-meter dive he won the event with a score of 263.10, almost 30 points better than his next competitor.
