Binghamton’s David Holmes (Doncaster, England/Derby Univ.) and New Hampshire’s Shannon Daly (Brightwaters, N.Y./Brightwaters) have been named America East Men’s and Women’s Swimming performers of the Week. UMBC’s Jeff Salgado (Glen Rock, Pa./South Western/St. Bonaventure) and Stony Brook’s Hailey Lewandowski (Pamona, N.Y./Ramapo) are this week’s Men’s and Women’s America East Diving Performers of the Week. Holmes won all four of his individual events this past week, while setting three Binghamton pool records in two dual meets for Binghamton. On Saturday against St. Bonaventure Holmes broke the pool record in the 50-free with a time of 21.05 eclipsing the record of 21.20 set by current teammate sophomore Kaan Tayla last season. Holmes later swam the 200-fly in 1:52.05, breaking the pool record of 1:52.16 set in 2003 by fellow countryman Chris McGuire. In the 400-free relay, Holmes swam the first leg in 46.00, capturing the pool record in the 100 free, the previous record of 46.30 was set by Louis Petto of New Paltz in 1994. In the dual meet on Wednesday at Lafayette, Holmes took top honors in the 100-free (46.45) and the 1000-free (9:37.08). In the final race of the meet he swam the final leg of the 400-free relay that placed first with a time of 3:20.29.
Daly set a new pool record in the 200-breast with a time of 2:18.53 against Rhode Island. The previous record was 2:18.94, set in 1998. Daly also helped power her team to a first place finish in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:52.39, beating out URI (1:54.42). Daly also won the 100-breast, clocking in at 1:05.20.
Salgado Broke his own school three-meter diving record with a score of 314.85 to win the event against East Carolina on Saturday. He set the previous mark at 301.28 on Nov. 5 at Binghamton. It is the third time this season Salgado has reset the three-meter record. Salgado also won the one-meter competition with a score of 305.77.
Lewandowski turned in her top performance of the year, sweeping the one- and three-meter diving events against Vermont and St. Peters with scores of 230.85 in the one meter and 212.20 in the three.
