BOSTON— University of Albany’s Joe Greene (Geneva, N.Y./Edison), UMBC’s Jenelle Wilson (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern), and University of Vermont’s Channel Hamilton (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) have been named America East Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track Performers of the Week. UMBC’s Nathan Dixon (Patuxent, Md./Patuxent) and University of Maine’s Heather Zavaduk (Smithers, B.C./Smithers Secondary) are this week’s Men’s and Women’s America East Indoor Field Performers of the Week. Greene took second in the 400-meter dash at the NYC Gotham Cup last Friday with an IC4A-qualifying time of 47.83. The time was a personal best for both indoor and outdoor track, and he finished 35-hundredths of a second off Albany’s record in the event. Greene, a freshman, also ran an anchor split of 47.7 for the men’s winning 4x400 relay, which also qualified for IC4As with a time of 3:13.94. In addition, he had an indoor personal best in the long jump with a mark of 22-9.75 (6.95 meters).
Wilson was one of UMBC’s top scorers as the women’s team placed 11th out of 17 teams at the NYC Gotham Cup. UMBC scored 34 team points in the meet. Wilson contributed five after placing fourth in the 400-meter dash, finishing in a time of 58.64 seconds. Wilson added eight more team points for the Retrievers as the opening leg of the Retrievers’ 4x400 relay team that placed second and qualified for the ECAC/IC4A Championships. The Retriever 4x400 relay team finished in a team of 3:53.26.
Hamilton posted two wins in the 60-meter dash and the 200 meters to lead Vermont to a third-place finish in a tri-meet at Dartmouth with New Hampshire. Hamilton won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.86 and recorded a time of 26.08 to finish first in the 200 meters. Her time in the 60-meter dash is the fastest time in the conference this season.
Dixon won the pole vault event at the NYC Gotham Cup at the New York City Armory. Dixon recorded a mark of 15’75" (4.80 meters) to win the competition. Dixon’s mark bested teammate and second-place finisher Rob Ludwig, who recorded a mark of 15’26" (4.65 meters). Dixon’s height was almost a full foot above the top non-UMBC competitor in the event, who finished with a mark of 14’76" (4.50 meters).
Zavaduk cleared 3.45 meters in the pole vault at the University of Rhode Island Invitational on Friday, January 13. Her mark set a school record for Maine. She currently tops the conference with her latest vault.
