Binghamton University’s David Holmes (Doncaster, England/Derby University) and University of New Hampshire’s Shannon Daly (Free Brightwaters, N.Y.) have been named Men’s and Women’s Swimming Performers of the Week. UMBC’s Jeff Salgado (Glen Rock, Pa./South Western/St. Bonaventure) and Ashley Houghton (Frederick, Md./Urbana/Pittsburgh) are this week’s Men’s and Women’s Diving Performers of the Week. Holmes swam the 500 free in 4:38.01, breaking the school record of 4:40.42 this past weekend against Drexel. He touched over 20 seconds faster than his next fastest competitor. Holmes placed first in the 50 free (21.52) earlier in the meet. He also swam the final leg of the 400 medley relay which took first place in 3:34.63.
Daly anchored the 200 medley relay which won with a time of 1:49.28. She was first in the 100 breast (1:05.39), the 200 breast (2:09.65) and the 200 IM (2:08.52). Daly has the fastest time in the conference for the 200 breast this season.
Salgado swept the diving events in the win against Howard and shattered his own school record on the one-meter board with a score of 350.55, which qualifies him for the NCAA Zone Regionals. He had set the previous mark at 310.28 last month against Bucknell. It is the third time this season that Salgado has reset the one-meter record. He also won the three-meter competition against Howard with a score of 296.70.
Houghton won both diving events against Howard with scores of 231.97 on the one-meter board and 291.15 on the three-meter board. Her three-meter score was just more than two points below her own school record of 293.40.
