Boston University's Sarah Shute and New Hampshire's Michelle Tavener were named America East Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively. The first awards of the 2005 season were handed out on Monday (September 6).
Shute had a great start to her sophomore season, recording a hat trick in the Terriers’ 4-3 overtime loss to 2004 national semifinalist Michigan State on Aug. 27. She scored her three goals on just five shots against the Spartans. In Boston University’s 2-1 win over cross-town rival Boston College on Sept. 2, Shute continued to be an offensive threat, recording a team-best three shots.
Tavener recorded four points, all on goals, in the first four games of the season. She scored a goal on a penalty stroke in her collegiate debut vs. Indiana, and that tally pulled the 'Cats within 2-1. Tavener also scored a goal on a penalty stroke at St. Louis that goal gave UNH a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute and proved to be the game-winning goal.
