University of Maine’s Shaunessy Saucier (Old Town, Maine/Old Town) and Boston University’s Holly Wiles (Harare, Zimbabwe/Arundel School) were named America East Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively. The awards were announced Monday (September 26).

Saucier, a senior for Maine, had a strong weekend for the Black Bears scoring four goals and adding one assist for nine points in two games. Saucier had two goals and one assist in Maine’s 5-3 win over Providence and followed that up by scoring both of Maine’s goals in a 3-2 overtime loss to Rhode Island on Sunday afternoon. She scored goals on all four of her shots on the weekend. Saucier has currently scored goals in three straight games for the Black Bear and currently leads the team in scoring with a team-high five goals and a team-high four assists for a team-leading 14 points.

Wiles turned in a remarkable week, scoring three goals to help the Terriers post three wins. On Tuesday at Massachusetts, Wiles accounted for all of Boston University’s scoring in a thrilling 2-1 overtime contest. The freshman tied the contest at 1-1 in the 47th minute before sending the Terriers home with a victory with the game-winning marker in the 76th minute on a penalty corner. In a 5-0 win against Fairfield on Saturday, Wiles turned in the best performance of her young career, scoring a goal and making plays on both ends of the field to lead Boston U. to the shutout victory.
