New Hampshire’s Catherine Parker (Westford, Mass./Westford) and Boston University’s Dan Sieckiewicz (Westerly, R.I./Westerly) have been named the America East women’s and men’s Cross Country Performers of the Week, respectively. The awards were announced Tuesday (September 20).(Week 2 recap)
Parker, a sophomore at New Hampshire, won the individual title at the Third Annual Ted Owens Cross Country Invitational, which is held by Central Connecticut State University. The Wildcats ran as a group in the first two miles of the 5K course, then Parker ran a very strong last mile to chase down the leaders and cross the finish line in 18:09 -- an impressive 12 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor. Parker's victory propelled the 'Cats to a first-place finish in the five-team meet (UNH, UConn, URI, CCSU and Fairfield).
Sieckiewicz, a junior at Boston U., Placed 17th out of 255 with a time of 25:48 and led the BU men’s cross country team to a sixth place finish out of 33 teams in the Buddy Harris Memorial at the 33rd annual Dartmouth Invitational in Dartmouth, Mass., on Saturday Sept. 17, 2005.
