Maine's Heather Hathorn (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough/Loomis-Chaffe) and Stony Brook's Tiffany Fasullo (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) share this week's Player of the Week honors, while Sara Hourihan (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield) of New Hampshire wins her third-straight Rookie of the Week award of the 2005 season. The awards were announced on Monday (September 19).
Hathorn led Maine with three goals on the week. The senior forward scored a goal in Maine’s 4-1 win over Holy Cross and added two goals in Maine’s 3-0 victory over Marist. One of Hathorn’s goals was scored on a penalty kick and it was the first two-goal game of the season for Hathorn. She currently leads the Black Bears in scoring on the season with four goals and one assist for nine points.
Fasullo paced the Seawolves with three goals this week, en route to going 2-1 in games played. The sophomore midfielder netted Stony Brook’s first goal on Friday in the Seawolves 2-1 comeback victory against Sacred Heart in the Holiday Inn Express Invitational hosted by the Seawolves. Fasullo, who was named the tournament MVP, tallied both of Stony Brook’s goals agsinst St. Francis (Pa.), to lead the Seawolves to the Invitational’s crown. She headed in a Chelsea Van Horn corner kick just 4:18 into the contest, and then calmy buried a corner kick at the 71:28 mark to claim the victory over the Red Flash.
Hourihan scored two goals in both of UNH’s games last week to account for four of the five goals the Wildcats scored versus Providence and Rhode Island. She scored both of the team’s goals in a 2-0 win vs. PC with a tally in the 36th minute (which was her third game-winning goal of the season) and another just 20 seconds into the second half. Against URI, Hourihan’s first goal gave the’ Cats a 2-0 lead in the sixth minute and her second strike pulled the ‘Cats within 5-3 in the 85th minute.
