Five Receive Weekly Honors in Volleyball

For the second consecutive week, Stony Brook's Morgan Sweany (Mission Viejo, Calif,/Capistrano Valley) shares Player of the Week honors, this time with Ashlee Reed (Round Rock, Texas/Round Rock) of Albany. Lindsay Allman (Fenton, Mo./Rockwood Summit) of Maine and Caitlin Dowd (Portsmouth, N.H./Portsmouth) of New Hampshire also share this week's Rookie of the Week award, while Stony Brook's Kate Ruskowski (Richmond, Texas/Foster) earns her first-ever America East Setter of the Week award. The accolades were handed out on Monday (September 19).

Sweany led the Seawolves to a 2-1 record over the weekend and a second-place finish in the Marist Invitational, en route to being named all tournament team. Sweany averaged a hefty 5.75 kills per game, 2.83 digs per game and 6.29 points per game. In the opening match, Sweany came through with a double-double, 12 kills and 14 digs, to lead SBU to an opening round win. In the second match, she tallied 19 kills and six digs as the Seawolves knocked off tournament host Marist. In the final match of the tournament, she hit a match-high 19 kills with a .341 attack percentage in the loss.

Reed was named the MVP of Virginia’s Jefferson Cup Tournament last weekend as the Great Danes went 3-0 versus some solid competition. Reed averaged 2.58 kpg, 1.67 dpg, 0.67 blocks per game and 3.33 ppg. Reed also hit a healthy .410. She smacked a season-high 14 kills against Appalachian State and recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 kills and 16 digs to go along with five blocks in the championship match against host Virginia. Reed helped the Great Danes’ post 11 team blocks in two of three matches, which is the highest single-game total in the program’s Division I history. Reed also registered her 900th career dig this weekend and moved to seventh on the school’s career charts with 913.

Allman averaged 2.6 kpg, 1.9 dpg and 3.0 ppg at the Molten Invitational in For Worth Texas. She posted a career-high 19 kills in Maine’s win over Campbell, which snapped a six-match losing streak for the Black Bears.

Dowd registered 26 kills on the week in three matches and 10 games averaging 2.60 kpg and 2.80 ppg. She posted a week-high 14 kills versus Boston College and was the Wildcats' lone selection to the Ocean National Bank All-Tournament Team.

Ruskowski led the league with an impressive 13.08 assists per game to pace the Seawolves to a 2-1 mark on the week. The 5-10 sophomore also averaged 1.00 dpg and 0.58 services aces per game.
