BOSTON— Northeastern University (14-5 America East, 25-20 - with one game remaining) clinched the No. 1 seed for the upcoming 2005 America East Baseball Championship at Centennial Field in Burlington, Vt. The four-team double-elimination tournament takes place on May 26-28.
With its 4-2 victory (10 innings) over Stony Brook University in game one of its doubleheader on Saturday, the Huskies claimed their second-straight America East regular season crown. NU will take on No. 4 Binghamton University (12-8, 23-24) in the first round of the league championship on Thursday, May 26 at 3:30 p.m.
University of Maine (14-7, 31-16) downed Binghamton 6-5 Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale for both squads to garner the two seed. The Black Bears will face No. 3 seed and host, University of Vermont (14-7, 26-17), in opening round action also on Thursday, May 26 at 7 p.m.
The winner of the America East Championship is awarded the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
