Junior Goalkeeper Kevin McKeown (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) of Binghamton and sophomore Drew Westervelt (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) of UMBC share America East Player of the Week honors while Binghamton's Michael Cove (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) and Bo Tripodi (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) of Stony Brook share Rookie of the Week Honors. The awards were announced Monday (May 2).
McKeown, the America East GAA leader, made eight saves in goal, holding a potent Stony Brook offense that ranks third in the country to a conference season-low eight goals. McKeown also had four ground balls.
Westervelt tied a career high with four goals in UMBC's 9-8 win at Albany on Saturday night. He scored three of the Retrievers' first four goals as UMBC built a 5-2 halftime lead. Westervelt is the lone Retriever to score in all 14 games this season ans has a scoring streak of 24 in a row.
Cove has been a starter all year as a freshman on last year's number one ranked defensive team which didn't lose any starters in the off-season. On Saturday he was part of the defense that held the potent Stony Brook offense to a season-low eight goals.
Tripodi equaled his career high with a game-high five goals in Saturday's game against Binghamton. It was his fourth hat trick of the season and propelled him into the team lead in goals scored. He finished with a team-high 25.
