Heriot, Krajeski, Smith Nab Weekly Baseball Honors

Northeastern’s Jeff Heriot (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) earns his first Player of the Week award of the season, while Jason Krajeski (Woodbury, Conn./Nonnewaug) of Hartford takes home his first Pitcher of the Week award of the 2005 campaign and Maine’s Curt Smith (Curacao, Netherlands/Peter Stuyvesant) garners his third Rookie of the Week award of the year. The awards were announced on Monday (May 2).

The senior outfielder was instrumental in NU’s sweep of UMBC, which gave the Huskies sole possession of first place in the league standings. Heriot hit an impressive .563 on the week with one home run and seven RBI, while stealing a base. He recorded three hits versus Vermont, went 2-5, hitting a grand slam to lead Huskies to 5-1 win over UMBC and then was 2-4 with two doubles and two RBI in 12-7 win over UMBC. Overall, he batted .500 with a homer and seven RBI in the series sweep versus the Retrievers.

The sophomore righthander threw a one-hit complete game shutout in the 2-0 win over Stony Brook on Sunday. Krajeski recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts over seven dominant innings. The only hit he allowed came on a bloop single to center in the second inning. Krajeski is now 2-0 over four America East starts with a 1.55 ERA. He has allowed just five runs in 29 innings pitched during conference play. He leads the team in wins (3), ERA (3.24), strikeouts (28) and innings pitched (41.2).

Smith scored three runs and drove in six in Maine’s 4-1 week. He hit a pair of home runs, the first two of his career, against Vermont. Smith was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI in Maine’s 11-5 win over the Catamounts and had a home run and a double in the game. He went 2-for-5 in Maine’s 4-3 win over Vermont on Sunday and also had a double and home run in the game and scored a run and drove home one. On the week, Smith had a .619 slugging percentage, was 1-for-1 in stolen bases and had a 1.000 fielding percentage in 10 chances.
