Thomson, Westervelt, Tripodi Pick Up Weekly Honors

Sophomore Merrick Thomson (Stoney Creek, Ontario/Albany Academy) of Albany and Sophomore Drew Westervelt (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) of UMBC share America East Player of the Week honors. Bo Tripodi (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) of Stony Brook has been named America East Rookie of the Week. Awards were announced Monday (April 25).

Thomson totaled five goals and two assists in a 14-13 loss to No. 7 Syracuse. He tied the game at 10 apiece with 13:00 remaining, plus closed the gap to 14-13 with 1:33 to play. Thomson is first among NCAA Division I leaders in goals per game (3.75) and is second in points with a 5.17 average.

Westervelt scored the game-winning goal one minute into the second overtime period as UMBC nipped host Loyola, 9-8, on Tuesday. He tied for game high scoring honors with three goals and two assists in the 10-9 loss at Stony Brook.

Tripodi turned in one of his most impressive performances of the season in a conference matchup as he scored three goals and assisted on two others in SB's 10-9 win over UMBC Saturday night. His third goal in the fourth quarter stood up to be the game-winner, his fifth of the season, and completed his third hat trick of the year.
