Binghamton’s Brendon Hitchcock (Laceyville, Pa./Wyalusing Valley) garners his second America East Player of the Week award of the season, while Chris Blazek (Litchfield, Conn./Litchfield) of Vermont earns his first Pitcher of the Week award and Northeastern’s Kris Dabrowiecki (Toronto, Ontario/Ursula Franklin Academy) takes home his second Rookie of the Week honor of the season. The awards were announced on Monday (April 25).
In a 4-1 week for the Bearcats, Hitchcock raised his league-leading batting average to .430. He had three or more hits in three of the five games, including a 4-for-5, four RBI performance in game 1 of Sunday’s twinbill with UMBC. For the week, he produced a slugging percentage of 1.105 and an on-base mark of .619.
Blazek threw a four-hit, complete game shutout over Northeastern Sunday in which he struckout 12 and walked just three. He is now 3-0 in three starts against conference foes with a 1.27 ERA and 37 Ks in 21.1 innings (only 15 hits and seven walks). Blazek ranks among NCAA leaders averaging 14.03 strikeouts per nine innings and has recorded double-digits in strikeouts in four of his seven starts this season.
Dabrowiecki notched his team-leading fifth win of the year after shutting out Boston College over five innings, allowing just five hits while striking out three batters. His fifth win makes him the first freshman Husky since 2002 to win five games in a season.
