Lansing, Souviney, Jones, Wiechman Pick Up Weekly Honors

Maine’s Mike Lansing (Lovell, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) and Kathryn Souviney (East Vassalboro, Maine/Winslow) have been named the Men’s and Women’s Track Performers of the Week, respectively, while Albany’s Jonathan Jones (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger) and Maine’s Micralyn Wiechman (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) have been named the Men’s and Women’s Field Performers of the Week, respectively. The awards were announced Tuesday (April 19).

Lansing set a school record in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:57.73 to finish fourth overall at the Searay Relays at the University of Tennessee. His time qualifies for the NCAA Regionals.

Souviney set a school record with 4705 points in the hepthalon to finish seventh overall at the SeaRay Relays. Her time in the 100-meter hurdles during the event was 13.86, which qualifies for the NCAA Regionals.

Jones finished first in the long jump with an NCAA-qualifying mark of 24-feet, 1.5-inches to lead the Great Danes to the team title at the 11th Annual UAlbany Spring Classic. Jones qualified for for next month’s NCAA East Regional on his first jump of the competition. The senior also finished fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 44’8.25.

Wiechman was first in the shot put at the Wildcat Invitational II with a throw of 38’11.75 at the Wildcat Invitational II.
