Haas, Morin, Shirk Earn Softball Honors

Jamie Haas of Boston University, Amanda Morin of Albany and Kali Shirk of UMBC were named America East Softball Player, Pitcher and Rookie of the Week, respectively, on Monday (April 18).

Haas (Houston, Texas/Klein) led Boston University to a 4-1 week. The senior shortstop was 6-for-10 in the three-game series with Binghamton and scored four runs. Earlier in the week she was 5-for-8 in a doubleheader sweep of Harvard, including the game-winning hit in the eighth inning of a 4-3 win. For the week, she batted .611 with seven runs scored. It was the second time Haas has been named Player of the Week this season.

Morin (Gansevoort, N.Y./South Glens Falls) of Albany is the America East Pitcher of the Week for the fourth time in seven weeks. The junior was 2-0 , including a complete-game one-hitter vs. Stony Brook Sunday. She also retired all nine batters she faced in a win over the Seawolves Saturday. Opponents batted just .040 against her in her two starts. Morin is now 9-1 with a 0.41 ERA this season.

Shirk (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) of UMBC is the America East Rookie of the Week. Shirk batted .444 with five runs in as many games. The leadoff hitter also had three stolen bases and had a .474 on-base percentage.
