Senior Vanessa Cox (Newton, Mass./Newton North) of Vermont and Sophomore Kate Fontana (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) of Albany share the America East Player of the Week honors. Boston University’s Anne Sheridan (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park) and Jenny Hauser (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) were named America East Defender and Rookie of the Week, respectively. All awards were announced Monday (April 11).
Cox scored six goals against Binghamton, five in the second half, to help the Catamounts erase a six-goal deficit to earn the 12-11 victory. She also netted four of UVM's six goals in a loss at Holy Cross. Cox needs just three points over Vermont's final five games to become the all-time leading scorer.
Fontanta tied her season-high with four goals, including the game-winner with two minutes remaining to give UAlbany its second straight win. Fontana added a game-high five ground balls, three caused turnovers and one draw control. For the season she leads the Great Danes in goals (31), ground balls (46), and caused turnovers (29).
Sheridan mad a game- and season-high 18 saves while allowing just eight goals in 55:20 against Harvard. She also stopped seven shots while allowing just four goals against UMBC. On the season, Sheridan ranks among the NCAA leaders in both goals against average (6.96) and save percentage (.601).
For the week Hauser racked up seven points on five goals and two assists in two Boston U. wins. On the season, she lead the Terriers in goals (25).
