Albany's Kelly Ogden (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) and Amber Maisonet (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) have been named America East Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week for softball, respectively, on Monday (April 11). Stony Brook’s Sarah Hoffman (Commack, N.Y./Commack) also took home Pitcher of the Week accolades.
Ogden tied the Albany mark for career home runs with her eighth on April 10. The sophomore infielder had the game-winning RBI in three contests on the week and had four multi-hit games. Two of her four home runs were go-ahead shots, a grand slam against Dartmouth in game two and a two-run blast versus Hartford in the opening contest. She drove in the deciding run against Dartmouth in game one on a sacrifice fly and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate against Hartford in the first game of the twinbill. She had a three-RBI performance in the nightcap at Boston U. and scored twice.
Hoffman continued her outstanding play on the mound, winning each of her four starts last week to extend her winning streak to eight games. She picked up a pair of shutouts versus conference opponents Vermont and Binghamton, while allowing just three runs and three walks while striking out 20 in 27.0 innings of work to move to 8-3 on the season. Her best performance of the week came against the Catamounts, as Hoffman allowed just four hits to pick up her first shutout of the season.
Maisonet tied a career-high with three hits and three RBI at Boston University in the nightcap on April 9. The rookie outfielder had a two-run single in the contest that plated the first runs in a six-run fourth inning. Her leadoff bunt single began a five-run outburst against Hartford in the first game on April 6 and she recorded at least one hit in six of the seven games, scored two runs twice and recorded 16 putouts without an error.
