Burns, Johnson, Maitland, McCusker Garner Weekly Awards

Albany’s Gered Burns (Altamont, N.Y./Guilderland) and UMBC’s Tyishua Johnson (Lanham, Md./Elizabeth Seton) have been named the Men’s and Women’s Track Performers of the Week, respectively, while Boston University’s Peter Maitland (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) and Stephanie McCusker (Lisbon, Maine/Lisbon) of Maine have been named the Men’s and Women’s Field Performers of the Week, respectively. The awards were announced Tuesday (March 29).

Burns finished first in the 1500-meter run at North Carolina State’s Raleigh Relays, held on March 25 & 26. He was victorious in the field of 35, which included runners from Duke, Virginia, and Georgia State. Burns ran a time of 3:52.16, just missing the IC4A qualifying time of 3:52.00.

Johnson had an outstanding weekend at the VCU RAM invitational for the Retrievers, placing in the top four in three different events. She was a part of the UMBC 4x400- and 4x100-meter relay teams that scored first and fourth place, respectively. Johnson Anchored the 4x400-meter relay team that topped out at 3:57.42. She completed her day in the triple jump, scoring third place with a distance of 37’01.75.

Maitland, a junior at Boston U., won the javelin throw at Northeastern’s Snowflake Classic with a distance of 195’05.

McCusker took first in the triple jump with a leap of 36’04.25 in a five-way meet hosted by the Naval Academy on Saturday.
