Binghamton’s Brendon Hitchcock (Laceyville, Pa./Wyalusing Valley) raised his average 112 points on the week (to .391), leading the Bearcats to three wins, enroute to the Player of the Week award. Vermont’s Derek Miller (Pelham, N.H./Pelham) earns America East Pitcher of the Week accolades, while Kris Dabrowiecki (Toronto, Ontario/Ursula Franklin Academy) of Northeastern garners the first Rookie of the Week award of his career. The awards were announced on Monday (March 28).
Hitchcock went 4-for-4 with a home run, five RBI and six runs scored against St. Peter’s and then collected nine hits and seven RBI in a four-game set at Lafayette. His six runs scored against St. Peter’s were a school record (D-I) and the five RBI tied the single-game RBI mark (D-I) that he and former teammate Jay Balback hold. Hitchcock had a .952 slugging percentage and .680 on-base percentage for the week.
Going the route in the seven-inning game, Miller allowed just three singles, a walk and a hit batsman, while using just 93 pitches to shut down the Big Green, one of the favorites this season in the Ivy League. He struck out eight and only one Dartmouth runner reached second base on the afternoon.
Dabrowiecki scattered seven hits in eight innings, while striking out six and walking none for his second collegiate victory, a 4-1 win over Holy Cross.
