Albany’s Amanda Morin (Gansevoort, N.Y./South Glens Falls) has been named both the America East Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, while Patti Egan (Sierra Vista, Ariz./Buena) of Binghamton earns her first-ever America East Rookie of the Week honors. The awards were handed out on Monday (March 21).
Morin, the season’s inaugural Pitcher of the Week winner last week, extended her scoreless innings streak to 28 consecutive innings with two shutouts at the Mizuno Bash at the Beach against Delaware and St. Joseph’s. She tossed her third one-hitter of the season and struck out 10 in a 2-0 win over Delaware. Her no-hit bid was ended in the top of the seventh with a two out single. She retired eight batters to start the game and later in the contest recorded outs on seven-straight hitters. Against St. Joseph’s, she fanned eight, allowing three hits and walked one. Morin also pitched to the minimum in four innings against Delaware.
The freshman pitcher went 2-0 on the week with a pair of complete-game wins, including a shutout, at the Maryland Tournament. She hurled a four-hit shutout against Mt. St. Mary’s in the consolation game on Sunday. One day earlier, she surrendered just two runs on five hits against Columbia. For the week, Egan pitched 17.0 innings and had an ERA of just 0.86.
