Chris Emanuele (Mississauga, Ontario/Michael Power/St. Joseph) of Northeastern has been named America East Player of the Week, while Maine’s Steve Richard (Billerica, Mass./Malden Catholic) and Steve Russo (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) of UMBC have been named Pitcher of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively. The awards were announced on Monday (March 21).
Emanuele went 4-for-5 and led off Thursday’s game versus Dallas Baptist with a home run. He also homered, driving in two runs and scoring three times, against Dallas Baptist on Friday. He currently has a 13-game hitting streak.
Richard pitched a complete game shutout for the Black Bears as Maine defeated Monmouth 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. Richard scattered just three hits, all singles, over seven innings and struck out nine batters in the game. His seven innings pitched and his nine strikeouts were both season-highs.
Russo, a 5-11 infielder, hit .500 on the week (3-for-6), while driving in a run and knocking in another.
