Albany’s Gered Burns (Altamont, N.Y./Guilderland) and Alyssa Lotmore (Albany, N.Y./Bishop Maginn) have been named the Men’s and Women’s Track Performers of the Week, respectively, while UMBC’s Nathan Dixon (Patuxent, Md./Patuxent) and Northeastern’s Laura Chmielewski (Monmouth, N.J./South Brunswick/Rutgers) have been named the Men’s and Women’s Field Performers of the Week, respectively. The awards were announced Tuesday (February 8).
Burns met the NCAA provisional qualifying standard in the championships division of the 800-meter run at the Fifth annual New Balance Collegiate Invitational. Burns, who was undefeated in the event prior to Saturday, finished second behind two-time All-America James Hatch (Arkansas) with a time of 1:49.50.The time tied Burns’ own school record in the event, and was the fifth-best time in the country this season.
Lotmore finished sixth in the championship division of the women’s mile at the Fifth Annual New Balance Collegiate Invitational at the New York City Armory on February 5. Lotmore, who set the school record in the event earlier this season, posted a time of 4:55.00.
Dixon highlighted the men’s track and field team at the New Balance Collegiate Open capturing first-place in the collegiate pole vault competition with a mark of 15’9. Dixon’s mark bested the competition by 5.75”.
Chmielewski finished fourth in the pole vault (12’7.75) at the New Balance Armory Collegiate Invitational. Her mark in the event is an America East best.
