Binghamton’s Kaan Tayla (Ankara, Turkey/Buyuk) and UMBC’s Jeff Salgado (Glen Rock, Pa./South Western/St. Bonaventure) have been named the Men’s Swimming and Men’s Diving Performers of the Week, respectively, while UMBC swept the women’s awards as Agnes Stanislawska (Zielona Gora, Poland/Lo VI) picks up her second consecutive Women’s Swimming Performer of the Week honor and Katie Spohnholz (Anchorage, Alaska/Robert Service) has been named the Women’s Diving Performer of the Week. The awards were announced Tuesday (February 8).
The freshman Tayla swept the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events in winning times of 21.27 and 46.73 respectively. He also anchored the 400-medley relay that won in 3:34.09.
Salgado claimed first-place in the one-meter diving event with a score of 244.35 and the three-meter diving event with a score of 297.75 against Johns Hopkins. His Marks in the three-meter set a new school record.
Against Johns Hopkins, Stanislawska placed first in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:54.25 and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.17. She was also a part of the 400-medley relay team that finished in 4:00.88, topping second place by nearly nine seconds.
Spohnholz’s scored mark of 270.60 in the three-meter diving competition against Johns Hopkins set a new school record.
