Vermont senior guard T.J. Sorrentine was the America East Player of the Week while Northeastern forward Shawn James and New Hampshire guard Chris Vetrano shared America East Rookie of the Week honors. The awards were announced Monday (February 21).
Sorrentine (Pawtucket, R.I./St. Raphael’s) scored 21 of his game-high 26 points in the second half as Vermont erased a 17-point deficit in the final 18 minutes in a 71-63 win at Albany Wednesday. He scored a team-high 24 points in a 74-64 loss at Nevada in an ESPN Bracket Buster Saturday game.
James (Brooklyn, N.Y./High School of Redirection/Notre Dame Prep) had back-to-back double-doubles in the Huskies’ wins, scoring 10 points and adding 10 blocks in a win over Maine Wednesday and adding 16 points and 10 rebounds in the win at Boston University Sunday. He is averaging 10.1 ppg, 7.4 rpg and a conference-best 5.5 blocks per game.
Vetrano (Andover, Mass./Andover) scored a career-high 19 points in the 71-57 win over Hartford Thursday. The 5-8 freshman made 5-of-9 beyond the arc. He is averaging 8.0 ppg with a team-leading 38 three-pointers.
