Almond, Hamilton, Opuana, James Pick Up Season' final Weekly Honors

Stony Brook’s Mathew Almond (Buckingham, England/Coventry University) and Vermont’s Channel Hamilton (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) have been named the Men’s and Women’s Track Performers of the Week, respectively, while Eric Opuana (Kaduna, Nigeria/Army Day Secondary School) of Albany and Boston University’s Tahari James (Branford, Conn./Branford) have been named the Men’s Women’s Field Performers of the Week, respectively. The awards were announced Tuesday (February 15).

Almond won his section of the one-mile run at the Boston University Valentine Invitational in an IC4A-qualifying tim of 4:14.00.

Hamilton won the 55-meter and 200-meter races with New England qualifying marks in both events in the meet at the University of New Hampshire over the weekend. Hamilton posted a time of 7:40 in the 55-meter sprint and followed that up with a time of 26.48 in the 200-meters. She owns the team’s best times in the 55-meter (7.40), 60-meter (8.00), 200-meter (25.96), 400-meter (59.44) and 500-meter (1:0.91) this season.

Opuana helped lead Albany to a team win at the Binghamton Dual on Friday ith his first-place finish in the weight throw. Opuana produced a winning throw of 58’8.75, over a foot further than the second-place finisher.

James swept the jumps at Boston University’s Quad Meet on Tuesday inning the long jump, triple jump, and high jump. She won the triple jump with a season-best distance of 37’11.75. In the high jump, she tied her season-best performance with a jump of 5’4.75. She also won the long jump with a distance of 18’11.75.
