Boston University senior forward Rashad Bell and Vermont senior forward Taylor Coppenrath share America East Player of the Week honors. Northeastern forward Shawn James is the America East Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday (February 14).
Bell (Queens, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) scored a career-high 29 points on 11-of-17 shooting and added seven rebounds as the Terriers ended Vermont’s 15-game win streak with a 61-55 decision at Agganis Arena.
Coppenrath (West Barnet, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy) posted double-doubles in both games. He had 27 points and 10 rebounds in an 82-55 win over Stony Brook Wednesday and added 37 points and 13 rebounds in the loss to Boston University Saturday.
James (Brooklyn, N.Y./High School of Redirection/Notre Dame Prep) averaged 20.5 ppg, 10.0 rpg and 6.0 bpg while shooting 89.5 percent from the floor (17-of-19). The 6-9 rookie scored 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting and added 14 rebounds and five blocks in an 86-66 win over Hartford Wednesday. He followed that with a perfect 8-of-8 from the floor en route to 18 points, six rebounds and seven blocks in an 85-55 win at UMBC Saturday. He is averaging 9.8 ppg and 7.4 rpg on the season with a school-record 92 blocks in 17 games (5.4 bpg).
