Karrer, Holmes, Goodman, Lawler, Crerar, Dege Earn Weekly Honors

UMBC’s Ryan Karrer (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional), Binghamton’s David Holmes (Doncaster, England/Derby University) and New Hampshire’s Kary Goodman (South Windham, Maine) have been named the Men’s and Women’s Swimming Performers of the Week, respectively, while Boston University’s Brian Lawler (San Luis Obispo, Calif./Laguna Hills) and Alex Crerar (Regina, Saskatchewan/Riffel) and New Hampshire’s Shana Dege (Lockport, N.Y.) have been named the Men’s and Women’s Diving Performers of the Week, respectively. Karrer swept the distance events on Saturday against Bucknell for the fifth time this season, winning the 500-free in 4:41.14 and the 1,000-free in 9:38.63. He helped the Retrievers move to 4-3 on the season and knock off Bucknell, which is ranked 11th in the first Mid-Major Power Rankings.

Holmes swam the 1000-free in 9:37.67, breaking the school record of 9:38.46 set by recent Binghamton Hall of Famer Matt Feinberg in 1996 this past week in a meet against Cornell. Holmes touched second in the 200-fly (1:53.13). He swam the final leg of the 400 free relay which took first place in 3:07.39.

Goodman competed in last weekend’s Brown Invitational. She was first in the 200-butterfly at 2:04.17, ahead of 23 other swimmers. Goodman set a new UNH school record for her time. She was also first in the 200-backstroke, coming in at 2:03.68, ahead of 22 swimmers. She was second in the 100-fly at 56.67, also a new New Hampshire school record.

Lawler dominated in the three-meter dive against Stony Brook, winning the event with 311.20 points, almost 85 points better than his nearest competitor. He also crushed the competition in the one-meter dive, with a score of 290.03, almost 90 points better than his closest foe.

Crerar won both the one-meter and the three-meter diving events against Stony Brook. She scored over 280 points in each of the events and beat her nearest competitor by 45 points in each event. She set a personal-best in the one-meter dive with 289.13 points.

Dege competed in the Springfield Invitational along with other divers from Springfield, NYU, Fairfield, Amherst, Clark, and Worcester Poly Tech. She took first place in the one-meter dive. She performed 11 dives and earned a 406.35 score. She was also first in the three-meter dive, also performing 11 dives with a score of 422.10.
