Young, Kaknes Earn Women's Soccer Weekly Honors

UMBC's Jessica Young (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) was named Player of the Week, while Vermont's Lexie Kaknes (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles) earns Rookie of the Week accolades on Monday (October 3).

Young scored three goals in two games this weekend, including both game-winners. She also picked up an assist in Sunday’s game at Stony Brook, her first dish of the year. She scored twice in Friday night’s 5-1 win over Howard, giving UMBC a 2-0 halftime lead with the eventual game-winner, then adding another goal early in the second period. In Sunday’s 3-0 victory over Stony Brook, she scored the first goal of the game and assisted on the second goal of the contest. She totaled seven points this weekend. Young leads the Retrievers with 10 goals, 21 points, 41 shots and five GWG. She has scored the game-winner in each of UMBC’s last five victories. The 10 goals and 21 points are both career highs.

Kaknes scored her first two career goals as a Catamount in Vermont’s 2-0 victory over Albany. She has recorded six points in the last five games.
