Vermont’s Danielle Collins (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) and Albany’s Ashley Ross (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) were named America East Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively. The awards were announced Monday (October 24).
Collins scored a goal and handed out two assists in a 4-0 victory over New Hampshire on Friday. With the victory, the Catamounts clinched a spot in the America East Championship for the first time since 2002. Collins set up Vermont’s first two goals of the game, including what proved to be the game-winner to junior Liz Berry (Westwood, Mass./Thayer). The sophomore would then score her sixth of the season on a nice give-and-go with classmate Kelly McClintock (Williston, Vt./Rice). Collins leads the team with 21 points on the year, coming on six goals and a team-high nine assists. With two regular season games remaining, Collins is already tied for the ninth-best single season point total in UVM history, while her nine assists are the second most in a single season at Vermont.
Ross tallied a career-high 11 saves in Albany’s 2-1 win over Boston U. on Oct. 22. She held the Terriers to their lowest goal output in America East play this season, allowing only one goal in Boston U.’s first conference loss since Oct. 24, 2003. Ross averaged 2.24 goals against on her way to registering Albany’s first-ever win over a top-20 team, as well as over the Terriers. Ross has eight wins and 67 saves on the season, good for eighth on Albany’s all-time charts. Her 2.24 GAA on the season is also sixth in school history.
