Russell, Radzik, Joy Earn Cross Country Weekly Honors

University of New Hampshire’s Matt Russell (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) has been named the America East men’s Cross Country Performer of the Week, while Binghamton’s Katie Radzik (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) and Stony Brook’s Leonora Joy (Auckland, New Zealand/University of Technology) share the women’s award. The awards were announced Tuesday (October 18).(Week 6 recap)

Russell placed fifth overall in a field of 220 runners with a time of 24:59.4 in the R.K. Munsey Men’s Championship Race to lead the UNH cross country team to victory at the 39th Annual Albany Invitational on Oct. 15. The Wildcats won the 27-team race, which included America East members Maine and Binghamton, with 99 points.

Radzik continued her outstanding season with a third-place finish at the Albany Cross Country Invitational on Saturday. As a team, the Binghamton women were sixth (out of 23 teams). Radzik, who has been Binghamton’s top runner in every race this season, covered the 5,000-meter course in 17:46.

Joy captured the women’s individual title at the Lafayette Invitational to help lead the team to a second-place finish on Saturday. Joy crossed first in 20:43.40 over the 6K distance, leading three Stony Brook finishers in the top 10.
