Binghamton's Kristie Bowers (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) has been named America East Player of the Week for the second time this season, while Boston University's Marisha Schumacher-Hodge (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley) has earned her second-straight America East Rookie of the Week award. The honors were announced on Monday (October 17).
Bowers allowed just one goal in two games during the week, lowering her goals against average to 0.83. She stopped five of six shots on goal in the Bearcats' 1-1 rain-shortened tie over UMBC and later tallied a season-high 13 saves to preserve a 1-0 win over Maine. The shutout was her fourth in the last six games and seventh of the season. Her performance in net on the week was critical as the defending champions clinched a berth to the six-team America East Championship.
The freshman Schumacher-Hodge had a hand in Boston U.’s only goal against New Hampshire Sunday, dishing to Melissa Shulman for the eventual game-winner in a 1-0 Terrier victory. Schumacher-Hodge hit a perfect feed to Shulman at the 15-yard line who booted home the goal in the Terrier's only league game of the week. The assist was her second of the season and helped Boston U. finish 3-0-1 in road games in America East play.
