University at Albany’s Tina Bryson (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) was named America East Player of the Week, while University of Maine’s Kim MacDonald (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) and Boston University’s Holly Wiles (Harare, Zimbabwe/Arundel School) share the Rookie of Week honor. The awards were announced Monday (October 17).

Bryson notched four goals last week, including the game-winning tally in overtime against Syracuse. The score against Syracuse came unassisted, 44 seconds into the extra period to halt the Great Danes’ five-game losing streak, which dated back to Sept. 17. She scored Albany’s final goal against UMBC on Oct. 15, again unassisted, to give the Great Danes a season-high five goals in the game, as well as help the team to its first America East Conference win of the season. Bryson went on to score Albany’s first two goals against Holy Cross on Oct. 16, the first coming at the 21:28 mark on an assist from Kristen Holder and the second at the 30:08 mark on an Arlette Westdorp assist, to lead the team to a 4-3 victory. Bryson’s four goals last week gives her 32 on her career and moves her to fourth place in school history.

MacDonald led Maine to a 2-0 week. She scored two goals and added an assist for five points in two games. She notched both game-winners. On Friday at New Hampshire, she assisted on the second goal of the game and then scored the game-winner in overtime on a breakaway. On Sunday at Dartmouth, MacDonald scored the lone goal of the game off a penalty corner at the end of the first half. MacDonald has a team-high seven goals on the season. She also leads the team in points on the season with 18. Her four game-winning goals also lead the team.

Wiles scored the game-winning goal in both of Boston University’s wins this weekend, including an overtime tally in a 2-1 triumph over Princeton. With the Terriers clinging to a 2-1 lead over Vermont on Saturday, Wiles recorded a spectacular goal in the 56th minute, collecting a rebound and lifting the ball over the goalkeeper in an eventual 4-2 win. On Sunday, the freshman stepped up again, scoring her team-leading eighth goal of the season on a great set-up from sophomore Pam Spuehler in the fourth minute of overtime.
